What is it about Whatcom County? The first thought that may come to mind about the most Northwest corner of the U.S. is cold, dreary weather. Yet this could not be further from the truth. Whatcom County, located in the state of Washington, is picturesque and historical with sweet Dutch towns and a unique mix of mountain landscaping with the beautiful Birch Bay. Therefore, when venturing to such a distinct area of the country, some of the million dollar price tags should not surprise anyone admiring Whatcom County real estate.

Whatcom County real estate resides within its three largest communities: Bellingham, Lynden and Ferndale. Filled with prestige, history, and a quiet quaintness, Whatcom County real estate appeals to all ages. These three towns are in no rush to become overdeveloped suburban sprawls. Instead, they have been able to successfully maintain their small town atmosphere alongside their Canadian neighbors. This small town environment  has resulted in high prices for Whatcom County real estate. A four bedroom, three baths, 3732 square-foot home in Bellingham demands a bid of at least $1.6 million.

Again, this should not come to anyone's surprise. Bellingham rests at the bottom of the snow topped Mount Baker, and just a few miles away are the calm waters of Birch Bay. Tourists and locals have the opportunities to enjoy skiing, swimming, and a wonderful array of recreational activities that are not normally combined. The houses that sprinkle the area of this Whatcom County real estate are just as beautiful and unique as the community they are located in. Most of the Whatcom County real estate in this area comes with a few acres that allow the residents to personalize their homes.

Another town containing prime Whatcom County real estate is the slightly smaller Dutch town of Lynden. Windmills are the first to greet any visitor. Full of color and heritage, Lynden has capitalized on its Dutch roots and small town atmosphere. There is also a more suburban opportunity in this town. A three bedroom, two baths, 1440 square foot home in a nice neighborhood has an asking price of $280,000. Not nearly as extravagant as the bay front homes, these houses are wonderful for families and community-oriented individuals.

The town of Ferndale is just as quaint. The smallest of the three towns, Ferndale provides its own unique atmosphere to Whatcom County real estate. Tucked further inland and with less tourism, there exists a more relaxed environment in Ferndale. A three bedroom, two bath, 1680 square foot home has an asking price of $269,000.

The large appeal to Whatcom County real estate is that this area maintains a small town environment, which fosters a sense of serenity and health. There is a diverse demographic in each town possesses its own unique aspects. All together, Whatcom County real estate reflects this diversity and quality of life.
